I’m a hustler baby! Happy Hump Day. Today’s song of the day is provided by Jay-Z. The song that Beyonce has performed on stage while on tour reminded me that Jay-Z has some SICK singles. Like this one, 99 problems, and anything off of any of his albums. The chorus features the Neptunes who we haven’t heard from in a while. But rumour has it, Pharrell is helping compose music for the Oscars!! Maybe we can throw Jay-Z in there for a little freestyle action.
This french bands latest album “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming” is on constant flow on my iPod. I started to wonder how did this band even come to be? Their song “Midnight City” is in a couple of commercials, they are getting some mild radio play, and people seem to know their music but who are they? Formed in 2001 by Anthony Gonzalvez, M83 has put out 6 albums to date. Yes, there is music before Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming! The band is known for their unique spins on songs like Bloc Party’s “The Pioneers” and Depeche Mode’s “Cover Walls” who they toured with in 2009. M83 have been working their butts off for a while now. Their music has influences from the 80′s, ambience and even a light touch of dance. Last year, the album I’m raving about placed #3 on Pitchfork Media’s top albums of 2011.
They must be doing something right!
Without going into a great detail about what they have done, you just need to listen to their latest album. Songs you must listen to are: Midnight City, Reunion, Wait, Reconte-Moi Une Histoire, New Map and OK Pal.

One Direction have been making all of you little girls and boys scream for the past couple of months. The band that placed 3rd in X-Factor over in the U-K are crossing over to North America and they are just blowing up. Their single “What Makes You Beautiful” is getting radio play like no other, and I’m thinking that they might take the effect that the Spice Girls had on the world. There is no dancing, or flashy stage shows…these guys just like to sing, walk around and be buddies in their music videos. But let’s focus in on one of the members, Harry Styles.
The boy who sings the pre-chorus in “What Makes You Beautiful” makes girls scream as much as the other boy band but did you know that he once dated a 30 year old? SAY WHAT? Yes the 18 year old boy was linked to Caroline Flack a TV host over in the U-K. The couple is ripping up tabloids over there about meeting at parties, planning parties, breaking up, getting back together…etc. But it seems like little old Harry likes big old woman! At the Brit Awards yesterday Harry confessed his love for Rihanna.
So if your 24 and up, Harry Styles might be coming for you.

Chris Brown is looking to get a real good smack down from CM Punk from the WWE. The wrestler took to his twitter to tell us about how he felt about Chris Brown being glorified for being a woman beater.

WWE superstars are gearing up for the Wrestlemania and in their ‘story lines’ they are all very angry with eachother. But CM Punk has other plans because he wants to ACTUALLY fight Chris Brown. So far Miranda Lambert and CM Punk have been the most vocal about Chris Brown’s return to the spotlight. But Rihanna doesn’t seem to care about any of this since they released the two songs they have together called “Birthday Cake” and “Turn Up The Music”. People have been theorizing about why the hell Rihanna would even consider going back to him to do music. One of the theories was that in an abusive relationship, the victim has a hard time getting over the person who hit them.
So weird, but it still doesn’t make it right.

That’s right, I may not be able to drop it like it’s hot but I can sure as hell drop a rhyme like it’s hot. Haha, I remember when this song first came out it was HUGE. Everyone was doing that tongue-clicking thing that carries through the song then feeling like a weirdo after finding out it was actually a computer generating sound.

Both singers have some Canadian flare to them and have dropped covers remembering the late Whitney Houston and Aaliyah.
In one corner we have Keshia Chante’s delightful voice singing with an acoustic guitar singing the sultry lyrics to “One in a Million”. This song is one of Aalyah’s most recognizable songs. Funny that Keshia chose to cover an Aaliyah song because there were some talks of Chante playing Aaliyah in a biopic. Do you see the resemblance? Whether or not you do, it’s a great cover.
In the other corner we have (recently busted for pot possesion) Robin Thicke. Although Robin was born in L-A his father is Canadian actor Robin Thicke. Whitney Houston covers are becoming a trend right now since the singer just passed away last weekend. A lot of musicians are saddened by the death so in a way to mourn they have been performing their own covers. Yesterday I posted a cover by Chris Cornell but today Robin Thicke absolutley killed Exhale (Shoop Shoop). The song which was the main title track for Whitney’s movie Waiting To Exhale was huge when the movie came out. But now it’s coming back to ‘haunt’ us in the form of a great falsetto and piano accompaniment.

Odd Future corrupts Willow Smith and drops new video!

Willow Smith is making headlines after saying Tyler, the Creator is the love of her life. No not in THAT way you nasty person you, but I think it’s in a brother-sister kind of way. Move over Jaden! Willow Smith hasn’t been around musically since dropping her single “21st Century Girl” but maybe this could mean they are hooking up for a collaboration? A lot of people were saying that Willow is being ‘corrupted’ by Tyler but it’s a known-fact that Odd Futures front man doesn’t even smoke or drink.
Yes dare I say it, he might be a good influence!
Moving over to his new video, all what I have to say is W T F.
The video opens with a shaky camera with Hodgy beats saying “f**k, this low” then cuts to a very cottage cheesy looking pair of buns shaking. If the opening scene didn’t have you pressing stop, that just means we like to watch some messed up stuff. Hodgy gets in a robot suit and breaks through a brick wall then flipping to Domo he starts slapping a girl who actually enjoys it?
Controversy, controversy, controversy…the video is so crazy which makes it kind of unwatchable. Therefore, I would reccomend you just bump the track…not watch video.
It’s rated 18A. So maybe Tyler isn’t a good influence after all…let me know what you think.

Well well well, with a tour to promote and Madonna’s tour over shadowing that Lady Gaga is screaming out for all of us to hear. A story surfaced this morning that Gaga thinks the devil is haunting her in her dreams.
To be more specific, Gaga said
I have this recurring dream where there’s a phantom in my home and he takes me into a room where there’s a blonde girl with rope tied to her limbs pulling her apart”
The kicker to this story that is already a kicker, she enlisted in Deepak Chopra for help. Deepak Chopra is a universally known physician, doctor and writer so I don’t disagree with Gaga for trying to use Deepak to find her spirituality.
But how in the world did this story even get out? The thing with Gaga is that her videos common theme is things like bondage and death. For exmaple her video Telephone is filled with death…so I mean I’m sure she isn’t the first person to think the devil is inside of her.

After the Grammy’s, Chris Brown has been getting unwanted publicity. When I saw unwanted publicity I mean, WE don’t want it. I will say it right now that Chris Brown’s music is great. It’s fresh, different, and he has a voice that I love to listen to. But rumours are currently swirling around that Chris Brown will be featured on Rihanna’s track “Birthday Cake” and Rihanna will be featured on a remix for “Turn The Music Up”.
Birthday Cake: One of Rihanna’s most sexual songs to date is all about ‘licking the icing off’. It’s no surprise that Rihanna is taking the vulgar route with her career. The singer who sings about giddy-uping and rude boys ‘getting it up’ is bound to release some sexual songs. Throw Chris Brown in there for the remix and what do we get? Will it be a sexual answer to each other? Will Chris Brown be singing back to her saying that he will indeed lick all of her icing off? If that’s the case, it will throw all of us off in every way possible.
Turn the Music Up: As mentioned before when I blogged about Chris’s new single “Turn the Music Up”. When Rihanna released “Pon De Replay” one of the many catchy lyrics to that song was “Turn The Music Up”. A play on words for Chris Brown’s latest single would only mean that Rihanna would be the perfect collaborator for this. Perfect musically but socially NOT. The song would sound great with Rihanna on it, it would probably sound like We Found Love 2.0. But with all the fuss over these 2 potential singles, I think Chris Brown and Rihanna shouldn’t make music together.
Sends the ‘wrong’ message. But if they do, I’m curious to see what kind of back-lash will happen. Will any happen at all? Chris Brown’s album topped charts years after the Rihanna incident so something is telling me fans won’t care.
You know what what means? Chris Brown and Rihanna will make plenty of money to buy lots of birthday cake!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIHANNA! Well if miss Robyn Rihanna Fenty wasn’t born 24 years ago there would be no Pon De Replay, S&M, We Found Love, Rude Boy or one of the most confident and layed back popstars out there! Thank you Mrs Rihanna’s Mom for giving birth to such a wonderful child and thank you Jay-Z for discovering a girl who once could barely speak English to now conquering the world. My song of the day is the over-played We Found Love. But no matter how many times it gets played, I am still jammin’ to it and so are you!

A breath of fresh music hit the Saturday Night Live stage this past weekend. Who was responsible for it? Sleigh Bells of course. The loud-alternative with a kick of hip-hop sounding group slayed the stage performing “Comeback Kid” and “End of the Line”. Since their first album “Treats” the band has been getting some crazy exposure but not as mainstream as SNL. I am so happy to see these two conquer that stage, not only does it make me want to buy tickets to their show but I’m also realizing that their music has got a little softer – in a good way!
Treats was full of guitar riffs, heavy beats, and sometimes over-modjulated vocals but with their song “Comeback Kid”…it’s actually a catchy song. I loved their first album but with their second one coming out TOMORROW, I’m excited to see how their music has changed.
I said it once and I’ll say it again, Sleigh Bells are a band to watch!

Adele wants to spit on her father, but she channels some great advice!

Adele’s vouge debut is giving us all something hold onto while we wait for new music from the phenomenon. Adele is holding a grudge against her father because he only really speaks to her through newspapers and magazines. Mark Evans has always had a distance relationship with Adele and he also has a serious alchohol problem. With having issues and a famous daughter it seems like Evans was being paid to do interviews with magazines to make some quick cash. Adele said
There’s consequences other than just getting a bit of f—ing money that lasts you half a year, It blows my mind. ‘I love her so much.’ Really? Why are you telling me that through a newspaper? If I ever see him I will spit in his face.”
Evan’s also took responsbillity for shaping up Adele’s musical career even though he has never seen live before! That sounds pure crazyness that millions of people would do anything to hear a voice like that and someone who is supposed to be close to you doesn’t even show.
The Advice: Adele is reminding us that if you ever get famous you’ll have family that comes crawling back. Don’t give into them because all what they want is your money.
Maybe the next album will have Adele channeling that oh-so cute angry side of music she has brewing in her.
