song of the day: Norah Jones – Happy Pills

May 16th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in Song of the Day - (0 Comments)

Happy Wednesday! This week feels like a long one but that’s okay because it’s May. For those of you wondering YES my Birthday is on May 28th. But guess what, I just plugged it for no reason because no one asked. LOL. Anyways my song of the day is from Norah Jones. THe song-stress just came out with her album called Little Broken Hearts which sounds like something she has never done before. More specifically the song called Happy Pills is decieving because there is nothing happy about it at all. It’s a break-up song. Basically saying if I get away from you, I’ll feel like I’m on happy pills.

Sometimes we don’t realize it but sometimes we do need to let-go in order to feel like we’re on Happy Pills. A song full of meaning and has a lot of impact.

The video is also worth-the-watch. Perfect for the song.

Happy Pills Wednesday!

The MMVA nominations!

May 16th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in award shows - (0 Comments)

This year has been a big year for Canadian Music! Mariana’s Trench is leading the pack with 7 nominations. Which I would totally agree with. If we’re focusing on music videos there is no doubt that within the Canadian realm of things they are #1. Also up for some is Drake and Hedley with 5 each. Which also comes to no surprises. But City and Colour, Danny Fernandes, Justin Bieber, and Simple Plan are also up for some MMVA’s

Video of the year:

  • Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen
  • She’s Dope, Down With Webster
  • Headlines, Drake
  • Invincible, Hedley f. P. Reign
  • Fallout, Marianas Trench

Who will win? I think this one will go to Carly Rae Jepsen. If we’re looking specifially at cinemeography, acting and all the other stuff that music video brings then I would give it to either DWW or Marianas Trench. But Carly Rae Jepsens video took this year by storm when the video basically went viral. Everyone blogged about, Justin Bieber approved it and we all can’t get the words out of our head.

International Video Of The Year:

  • Run The World (Girls), Beyonce
  • Next 2 You, Chris Brown f. Justin Bieber
  • Turn Me On, David Guetta f. Nicki Minaj
  • Good Feeling, Flo Rida
  • Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F), Katy Perry
  • Stronger, Kelly Clarkson
  • Marry The Night, Lady Gaga
  • Starships, Nicki Minaj
  • Give Me Everything, Pitbull f. Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer
  • We Found Love, Rihanna f. Calvin Harris

YES that’s a huge list of nominees. But it’s a way of saying Hey Beyonce, Chris Brown, Flo Rida, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Pitbull and Rihanna…you’re all invited to the MMVAS! Which would make for great performances but who will actually win this one? My money is on Rihanna. An edgy not predictable video had a lot of us jumping on the Rihanna bandwagon.

Also, over at http://mmva.muchmusic.com you can vote for the URFav categories where you control the outcome.

I’m getting excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lady Gaga does it again!

May 16th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in gossip - (0 Comments)

Lady Gaga is on tour with her Born This Way ball and now the tour is so massive that Indonesia doesn’t want her. But it’s not because they can’t accomdate her it’s because they don’t want to have her. The singer who is known for her vulgar ways and scantily clad body has declined to perform in the country. What it is, is that they think she worships the devil and that’s not acceptable in their country. The weird thing to this story is that she actually sold out her show there and the stadium held 52,000.

I like that Indonesia proabably thinks that banning Lady Gaga will make her lose fans but it actually shows us how much star power she as. Think about it, your sold out show gets cancelled because people think you worship the devil.

You-are-awesome.

Jay-Z for president?

May 16th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in Random - (0 Comments)

Well anything that Obama likes, Jay-Z likes too. A big headline over in the states is that Obama has said “Gay Marriage is Okay” and now Jay-Z is agreeding with that too. Shawn Carter said that is he proud that Obama is the first president to endorse same-sex marrige, that it was something actually holding the country back. He went on the explain that it’s no different from discriminting against blacks. Jay-Z actually makes a good point It’s funny who they went to to comment about this. Jay-Z but why? Jay-Z is royalty now and it seems like a lot of people actually thought he was against gay marriage if we didn’t think he was then why is the headline so shocking?

This has me thinking. If we actually really care about what Jay-Z thinks then our friends out of the border should all vote to make him the next president!

Scratched Vinyl

A story about a boy who wants to shut down a record store who was left to him turns around into a character driven story line with the message to “see something for what is was”. They are raising money for this film and is looking for donations. You can visit the site Scratched Vinyl to make a donation. Although the film seems like it’s still in pre-production the story line is promising and if I know the director Jordan. He won’t disappoint.

song of the day: Usher – Scream

May 14th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in music - (0 Comments)

Over the weekend Usher performed on SNL. He was also in a skit and was just having a good old time. Usher has been very vocal about his love for ‘dance’ music since his track with David Guetta called “Without You”. Seems like Usher is shedding that R&B image we know him for and is just pushing out the club-anthems. I heard this song on SNL as well the radio has put it in regular rotation. It’s a perfect ‘monday’ song to get you geared up for the week.

Holla

Reminiscing on athlete-rappers.

May 14th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in music - (0 Comments)

Over the weekend a fresh-rap-track was released to the general public which featured a tennis player rapping about ballin’ hard with no racket. About a year ago there were rumours that Serena Williams was seen leaving recording studios working on material but everyone desregarded it because they realized that it can’t be true.

But yes, we have another case of athelte turned rapper.

First let’s talk about the track. Obviously nothing special. She calls out the haters, having lots of money, and seeing the world through her gucci glasses. Damn, don’t we all wish we could see the world through gucci glasses? I hope she’ll come out and say “haha just kidding, I actually was just kidding” because I’m finding it hard to take this seriously.

Now, let’s talk about some athletes turned rappers.

First Up: Shaq!

Yes this is the real deal. Shaq was a rap-star. But I don’t think it went anywhere. I mean, if you’re listening to the song above you probably realize it’s not a #1 hit.

Floyd Mayweather

Yes, the boxer even tried his hand at rapping. I like how so far they are rapping about “he ain’t got nothing on me”…if he is talking about another rapper I’m sure he’s much better then you.

That was mean, sorry.

Randy “Macho Man” Savage

One of my favourite wrestlers from back in the day was also a rapper. It was a diss-track to Hulk Hogan. Best line “You pay per view event was a joke” …should have been nominted for a Grammy. RIP Macho Man!

Kobe Bryant

Last but not least, shout of to Kobe Byrant who has a full out live performance with dancers and a feautred Model named Tyra Banks…it’s the track that shouldn’t have happened.

With all these atheletes turned rappers, it got me thinking. I know Eddie Murphy’s singing career didn’t blow up and yes he is an actor. But Party All the Time was the bomb.

Florence + the Machine hypes up Snow White & The Huntsman

May 14th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in music - (0 Comments)

Well if you aren’t excited for this movie maybe this little music video feauting Florence + The Machine and some kick-ass footage will start to buld up some hype. The movie starring Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron will come out on June 1st. With Florence on the soundtrack and some really intresting action shots throughout the music video now this movie is starting to peak my intrest.

I didn’t really understand why they decided to remake or do stories ‘based-on’ the story line of Snow White because it seems like they took them and twisted and turned them all around that they could have just renamed the entire story all together. But this one seems to have a bit more going for it compared to the Mirror, Mirror movie which was it’s competitor.

Back to the song. The orchestra behind this song sounds amazing. Plus anything with Florence’s voice on it is usually hypnotic. So ENJOY!

A Jay-Z festival? Count me in!

May 14th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in Concerts | music - (0 Comments)

Although the planned two day festival is going going to go down all the way in Philly, I can still be excited right? Beyonce’s other half has announced the festical but he didn’t want to tell us who is going to be playing. Not that he really had to. I’m pretty sure that is Jay-Z wanted to have a festical and say it was a surprise line-up he’d still sell out. He’s got some sponders like Budwieser and even the United Way signed on to have their logo attached to advertisements.

But enough about the logistics…who do we think is going to perform? My money is on Kanye, Beyonce, anyone who is signed to his Roc Nation label. So we might see some Rihanna pop up. R. Kelly, Jadakiss, Beanie Sigel….maybe we’ll get some Teairra Mari?

Either way, it’ll be a festival that will boost the tourism in Philidelphia and make a dent in many peoples wallets. But it’s worth it! September can’t come sooner.

X-Factor finds some new judges!

May 14th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in Reality TV - (0 Comments)

Lovatics and Britney Spears fans rejoice! Two of your favourite superstars will be series regulars on the oh so popular show “X-Factor”. Ultimately taking the place of Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. Based on the picture above, seems like Demi has been waiting to meet Britney Spears for a while. The Simon Cowell enforced show learned that the show was on the hunt for some new judges. Many names were passed along like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston but it sounds like Britney Spears and Demi Lovato nabbed the spots. Ttat means they will act as mentors to a group of contenstants to help them suceed. Kind of like the Voice, but more like American Idol more importantly we’ll get to see Britney Spears actually TALK. Demi Lovato seems very young to be a judge but I think she has enough experience to give some insight into the industry plus her pipes are ones to admire. I’m not sure the angle Britney Spears is going to be judging at but I know because of her this show will PULL in the ratings.

Looking into the future of the show, Demi Lovato will stick around and Britney Spears will phase out, announce an album near the season finale and go off on tour. Think about how J-LO used American Idol as a platform, it’s the perfect way to build up an entirely new fan-base, stay relevant and make people like you through your charming personality.

Can’t wait to see how these two do!

Some patients from a hostipal in Seattle put together this gem of a video. You can watch them lipsync Kelly Clarkson’s power-anthem “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger”.

Just amazing.

Kelly even liked it!

song of the day: Foster the People – Houdini

May 11th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in music - (0 Comments)

This is the song I’ve been jammin’ too all day. The kick-drum right off the top is a beat that would grab anyones ears. I am totally infatuated with this song. Not only is it refreshing for the summer but the lyrics are about wanting to disappear. The song which is appropriately named “Houdini” is my song of the day because #1 I can’t get it out of my head and #2 it’s my favourite song off of their album “Torches”.

Enjoy it and enjoy your weekend!
