Dissapointed, or not dissapointed? Well the Director X video shattered some YOUTUBE records over the weekend. You know, nothing too surprising. But let’s talk about the actual video. The video kicks off with a edgy dark Justin Bieber channeling some Michael Jackson moves. I thought we would be in store for a grown up Bieber video but before we go to the pre-chorus the video cuts off and shows two girls in the car. Oh, here we go. The video continues with some simple choreography, glamour shots and Bieber having a video girl that he is whispering and licking his lips to. Same old Bieber, not the edgy Justin I thought we were in store for.

Dissapointed, but great song.

Andre 3000 to channel is inner Jimi Hendrix.

Andre 3000 isn’t who I thought would be playing Jimi Hendrix but if you look above they actually kind of look alike. When I brought this topic up to my friends they said “Does he even act”, well YES friends he does act. Andre 3000 has been in a slew of films like Be Cool, Four Brothers, Charlotte’s Web, and Scary Movie 4. Okay not exactly the Oscar nominated list but hey I’m sure he got some chops. The movie is being shot in Ireland and will interpret his life in England from 1966 – 1967 when he recorded the album Are you Experienced? I could imagine that there is a lot of controversy surrounding this film regarding if Andre 3000 was the right choice but something is telling me that we are going to be very impressed with this film. Not many people know what exactly went on in Hendrix’s life but it’ll be cool to see the way the film comes together.

Would be a great slice of music history.

 

 

 

 

HEY BABY! No Doubt releasing album in September.

No Doubt is back in full effect. After going on a reunion tour and vowing not to make new music for a while…the band told all of us over the weekend that their album will drop on the 25 of September. That means the Gwen Stefani and her boys have been writing, recording, mixing and all of the good stuff. We still don’t know a name but the album will include songs like “Settle Down” and “One More Summer”.

I’m excited, are you? I’m starting to theorize what it would sound like but every album they have dropped (10 years ago) has sounded different. I wonder if they’ll settle for the top 40 sound or follow their gut and be original.

This weekend was a sad one in music with the passing of Beastie Boys rapped/founder Adam Yauch. Better known by his street name MCA, the industry mourned the lost of a legend. Beastie Boys are known for their crazy music videos, amazing sound, and unforgettable stage presence. MCA was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and was battling it for a while. Back in 2009 a bunch of artists like Coldplay started doing tributes to him just to help him cope with his freshly diagnosed sickness. Just last week MCA passed away after a long battle. Like how the Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and NSYNC inluenced the 90′s…the Beastie Boys were the go-to when it came to hip-hop. People wanted to speak, dress, rap, and dance like them. It’s a sad thing to see such a legend go but his legacy will live on through some kick-ass music.

and this…Coldplay covered the same song but with a piano.

I love that all of the music industry pulled it together and remembered him in the right way.

Yesterday I was having a conversation with someone about how depressing I think Florence and the Machine is. But then after seeing this video today I was actually quite happy about it. The video is amazing, full of crazy ness and it’s one of those videos you watch that have your eyes glued to the screen. The reason I was so anti-Florence was because I was expecing Dog Days are Over 2.0 so when I didn’t get that I was left a little musically confused. But they made it up to be with this music video.

Katy Perry to make her triumphant return to the MMVA’s this year!

KATY PERRY IS PERFORMING AT THE 2012 MMVA’s! Katy Perry will become a part of the MMVA’s again this year after performing California Girls a couple of years back. A memorable performance that was full of colours and candy was one of the best performances of the night back in 2010. Now MuchMusic says she is performing but WHO WILL CO-HOST? So far co-hosts have been Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez. A little bit of a Disney trend but who will host this year?

Fun. says “We Are Young” parodies aren’t funny.

Fun. has been getting a ton of press with their recent tour. They just played Toronto last week and obviously tore the roof off of the place. Their album Some Nights as I have described before is like an 80′s prom. But not that it’s a bad thing, they are just fully indudging themselevs in the rock and roll culture.

Althought many media outlets are reporting that the band said that the various parodies of their billboard chart topping song featuring Janelle Monae isn’t funny. I went to some trouble to find you some funny ones.

An awesome music channel called Fuse sat down with the Pretty Reckless lead-singer for a little chit-chat. If you don’t know much about Fuse, it’s the U-S version of MuchMusic but a little bit more edgy and fun. They have band members as hosts, not your traditional MuchMusic V-J but they have some of their staple hosts as well. It’s a great mix and it’s fun.

I saw this interview this morning and fell in love with it! Taylor Momsen is often misunderstood but this interview showed us that she is just a regular old Jane.

The “Opening Act” reality show.

With So You Think You Can Dance becoming less popular as the year goes by…Nigel Lythgoe has come up with another idea for a show and it sounds kind of cool. The show that is called Opening Act will have people vying for a shot to be the opening act on a major concert tour. LMFAO and Nicki Minaj’s tour is said to be the tours that are up for grabs. But there is no recording contract or million dollar prize JUST a 20 min set on a major North American tour. Not bad right? Yes the reality show is only for our friends south of the border but don’t worry because we all get to watch other peoples dreams come true. It’s not a bad thing, it’s cool because if it’s big in the U-S who know, they might bring it to Canada!

Remember, we make our own dreams come true.

An awesome song for a day that kind of feels like a Monday! The song reminds of a melody an old 90′s Robyn song would have but hey that is what got me bobbin’ my head in the first place. She is on the scene with the release of this new song called Whit Coats and her EP called ‘Warrior’ will drop in June! She is just creating buzz for herself but I like her vibe and I’m sure you’ll say she reminds you of Zooey Deschanel.

The Billboard Awards are coming. . .a TOP 40 fans dream.

The award show that last year created many headlines is back this year in full effect. The award show will take place on May 20th and will feature performanced by LMFAO, Carrie Underwood, The Wanted, and …JUSTIN BIEBER!

Adele leads the pack with 18 nominations which she’ll probably win and everyone from Rihanna to Lil Wayne to Lady Gaga are nominated. Those are the performers that have been announced so far but they promise more performers will be announced soon.

Should be a jam-packed performance filled award show with a lot to tweet about.

Trey Songz gives us an heart attack!

Well not literally but Trey Songs is one of the artists to start releasing music video trailers to create some buzz for their video. With the internet being a source for fresh music videos and news for us, we now look to get the latest previews for music videos to hold us over before we see them come on TV. It’s not a bad thing because think about Katy Perry’s ‘One That Got Away’ video preview, it was very eye opening and actually made us anticipate the video. Trey Songz makes us all want to see his latest video which apparently features Kelly Rowland as the co-star. She isn’t featured in the song but she is sure showing lots of love in this minute long video preview. The song which is about the type of relationship that you get so infatuated with then ends in a month shows Trey Songz at his most vulnerable. The song isn’t over dramatic, or annoying…it’s actually a smooth break-up song. The kind you’ll listen over and over again then get over really fast.
