the songs that will never get old;

February 2nd, 2011 | Posted by marksuknanan in music - (0 Comments)

in JANUARY I posted a few songs that are songs that I can see myself jammin’ to in the next 5-10 years. Obviously music is going to change tremendously in that time frame but HEY, you can’t deny a classic!

My First Pick of February: Ke$ha’s We R Who We R seems like every time this song is played SOMEONE is singing along. The whole catchy repeating every single line in the song THING that Ke$ha does makes me want to keep this song on my iPod. Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-HARD, just like the world is ours ours ours ah-ah ours….how could that not get stuck in your head? Oh Ke$ha we all thought you were going to be a one hit wonder with Tik Tok but you seem to prove us wrong with every new single you come out with. 10 years from now…we will be Jammin’ to Ke$ha!

Do you agree?

let me know…there will be more of these to come!

JUNO nominations ANNOUNCED!

February 1st, 2011 | Posted by marksuknanan in award shows - (0 Comments)

BOOYAHKAH! This year is a HUGE year for the Juno awards because it is going to be held at the A-C-C in TORONTO ( I WILL DO ANYTHING TO BE THERE ). Today at around 10:30 A-M, Tanya Kim (eTalk’s entertainment anchor) took part in hosting the nomination ceremony! Keshia Chante, Justin Bieber, Drake, Arcade Fire, Die Mannequin, Down With Webster, and MORE are nominated for the BIG night in Canadian Music. Down With Webster, Hedley,  and Broken Social Scene have been announced as performers (and a lot more performers!).

More specifically,

Drake is up for six awards including album of the year for Thank Me Later. Seems like that album came out a really long time ago! But realistically it was only in August…MORE MUSIC DRAKE! Also adding on to his 6 nominations he is also HOSTING the award show for the night. (RANDOM)

Sean Desman’s JUNO snub, after the nominations were released he tweeted saying this isn’t his year because he didn’t get nominated. *awkward. Truthfully I believe he should have gotten nominated. His music is actually pretty good, I mean it’s very pop. But I don’t really see or understand HOW he didn’t get nominated. But then again….neither did his brother Danny Fernandes. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT?

Justin Bieber….well DUH! Of course he got nominated!

Down With Webster! Yes TODAY I actually talked about this with them and they said they feel BAD ASS. They have paid their dues in so many ways and their music and image is something I haven’t seen before. Adding on to their 2 nominations…they are PERFORMING!

Kardinal Offishall got nominated in an R&B Category…………..L O L

for a FULL list of nominees; click here

Seems like this year is going to be a HUGE year. Lots of GREAT nominees and great peformers! Can’t wait to see how everything is going to go down. Overall the nominations seemed predictable with Justin Bieber and Drake leading the pack! But regardless, the show is going to be all sorts of CANADIAN craziness!

The Juno’s will take place on March 27th 2011

Justin Bieber was in TORONTO today.

Bieber Fever struck in all forms today at 299 Queen Street West. On New.Music.Live Justin Bieber stopped by to chat with the hosts about his upcoming film Never Say Never 3-D. I saw some previews of the film and I must say…it doesn’t look half bad. It shows him growing up as a kid using his talents to WOW people. It just shows that Justin Bieber is more than just (as he said at Much) a pre-packaged image. Can’t beleive he got his own movie though to go to theatres. Pretty huge for a 16 year old to get his own movie IN THREE-D! So awesome on so many levels.

What I think about Bieber: Really and truly he has TOO many haters. You know maybe sometimes he seems a little cocky or whatever. But realistically he is one of the biggest things to come out of Canada for a while. He has taken over the world with all of this Bieber Fever and most importantly his music isn’t THAT BAD. It’s catchy….your just hating.

I am not a #1 fan or anything, but Bieber is doing well!

WHAT THE ? …. This new video from Rihanna is something else. She went very ‘predictable’ with this video. The songs tag line is “sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me”. That very tag line truly shows in this new video! From latex, to whips, to gags, to blow-up dolls, it is all sorts of crazy inside of this video. I would have to say Rihanna is lookin’ mighty fine in this video…but the over all theme of this video had this ‘trash’ feel to it. The video just felt messy…it was like her RUDE BOY video, mashed together with a soft-core porno. It was definitely SOMETHING to watch.

WHAT does S&M mean: It means Sadomasochism…which translates to PAIN for pleasure, no thank you.

HERE IT IS, let me know what you think:

nah nah nah nah, COME ON!

artist to watch; Chromeo

January 31st, 2011 | Posted by marksuknanan in music - (0 Comments)

BOOYAHKAH! Thanks to New.Music.Live I discovered Chromeo just a couple of weeks ago. The show plays all new music videos and this video called “Hot Mess” came on and it had this infectious 80′s feel to it. That alone had me going straight to iTunes and downloading their album “Business Casual”. I was so caught off guard by this electro duo because not only is their music so different but they are from CANADA as well. (REPRESENT BROTHA’S) Chromeo consists of two group members Dave 1 and P-Thugg both have totally different images but together they make-up this hit making group. Buisness Casual has been their ‘claim to fame’ climbing to #4 on the Electro/Dance charts and not to mention they have been on repeat on my long drives back and forth to Niagara.

Hot Mess: This song is SICK, starts off with this old school beat then turns modern when the guys start singing and makes you want to listen more and more and more. They have this girl on the track that keeps on repeating “your a hot mess”, it’s a great song to listen to.

Chromeo is on my watch list….doin’ it big!

Watch the video it is so entertaining to watch…

your a hot mess

I didn’t know that Rihanna had a restraining order against Chris Brown. This is NEWS to me.…well I mean no surprise. So this news story popped up on my news feed that Chris Brown is pissed that Rihanna isn’t lifting the restraining against him because he can’t attend award shows that she is at. Chris Brown’s lawyers are saying that he has done such a consistent job at doing his community service and staying away from Rihanna that hopefully she will come around and lift the restraining order.(He better be doing a consistent job since he could go to jail if he doesn’t)

THIS SUCKS FOR CHRIS BROWN.

Could you imagine not being able to go to a award show because someone has a restraining order on you? That just BLOWS, but maybe Chris shouldn’t have gone all wife-beater on Rihanna and none of this would have happened. I mean this is the story that keeps on giving…you had two of musics most loved artists dating. Out of no where on the NIGHT before the Grammy’s where both of them were supposed to be performing all hell broke loose.

I know there are two sides to each story, but this one just shocked TOO many people.

Musically though Chris Brown’s music isn’t bad at all. He just isn’t selling as much because of this whole Rihanna thing. It’ll haunt him for a while…if not a while then FOREVER(on the dance floor)

NEW MUSIC and a NEW VIDEO from Avril Lavigne! Just last week she released a new video for her single ‘What The Hell’ and the song is like part 2 of her hit Girlfriend. Very ‘been there done that’ sounding. Also Avril didn’t really seem to think it was appropriate to change her look a little bit. She is still rocking the blonde 2008 hair with pink highlighted hair. When I first saw the video I thought I already saw it. You know when artists go out in hiding for a bit and they come back with this new ‘look’.  But on the bright side of Ms Avril Lavigne is that her music is very catchy and easy to get stuck in your head. With all the ooooowhoas, lalalala’s, and everything else that comes from a good Avril track is included in this new song! What the hell, give it a chance.

The video: The video basically has her running around like a cheerleader getting chased by her boyfriend. She plays basketball, winks at the camera a few times…I’m telling you it’s just Classic Avril.

Collaborations: She should get a rapper to do a verse on this track…it would spice things up. I am thinking Nicki Minaj, but I am always about her (hey nicki hey nicki, ASTHMA)

Canadian Pop princess Aleesia is doing it BIG with the release of her new single Not That Girl. The single is FREE through the Urban Behavior website and I am surprised they let such a ‘hot’ single go for free. The thing I like about Aleesia is she brings back that pop-music that we haven’t heard in a while. Her music is refreshing and has radio air play all over it. But she is more then just her music, I got the chance to meet Aleesia back in December and she has pop-star written all over her. She recently shot the video for ‘Not that Girl’ and she sent some exclusive pics! check them out:

oh and if you haven’t heard the song…this is IT.

The creator of the site that keeps us all connected might be doing Saturday Night Live tomorrow(Facebook addicts…this is the best news you have heard all week)! Tomorrow is a pretty BIG S-N-L episode. Jesse Eisenberg from ‘The Social Network’ is hosting the big comedy show with Nicki Minaj as a musical guest. Mark Zuckerberg (creator of CrackBook ;) ) MIGHT be appearing on the show to…poke fun at himself. Andy Samberg already does a killer impression of Zuckerberg so really and truely if he wasn’t going to show up…Andy will make it seem like he was really there. I think Mark-Z should GO! Why not! You just wait, Mark Zuckerberg is going to start showing up to all the A-List parties and getting his name in the media, Paris Hilton style!

From one Mark to another….DO IT!

-Mark Suknanan

PS: yeah I know it’s kind of creepy that Andy Sam‘BERG’ and Jessie Eisen‘BERG‘ both do impressions of Mark Zucker‘BERG‘.

bands to watch; Down With Webster

January 28th, 2011 | Posted by marksuknanan in music - (0 Comments)

As I said before 2011 will be a huge year in music, especially for Canadian music. I got the chance to meet Down with Webster last June and before I met them I never really payed attention to their first single “Richgirl”. Then I saw them hit the stage and perform a very marching band inspired version of “Your Man” (which my MY favorite song by them at this moment in time) and I was like :O. These 7 band mates are so talented and serious about what they do. The performance was a HIT and it made me realize that this band is not going anywhere anytime soon. They are for sure rising to fame and if you haven’t heard any of their music it has a rap/rock edge to it. They have come out with 2 albums so far and plan on releasing new music this year with Time To Win Vol 2. ALSO they will be going on tour next month! Before you know it this band will probably be selling out the A-C-C taking over North America!

Better watch out

Funny story: In July I was going on vacation to Jamaica, and I was at the Toronto airport getting food at Tim Hortons. I see all these guys walk up and I’m like….they look really familiar. Then all of a sudden I’m like HEY whats up and they are like MUCHMUSIC what’s up. At this moment someone called me MUCH MUSIC  (HOLY S$#@) and I was talking to Down with Webster at the airport. HOW COOL IS THAT!

-Mark Suknanan

WOW! I am so impressed with this new Nicki Minaj video. First off, if you don’t know already I am obsessed with this song. It is the perfect mixture of her singing and her hardcore ‘Roman‘ rapping. The video blew me away! It’s such a well-done video, you could tell a lot of effort went into this one (as appose to her “Your Love” video withe green screen fabrics floating everywhere)! Nicki is BLOWING UP! The video starts with a bit of acting from Nicki and she is talking to her Fairytale God Mother then it goes into the song. The dialouge between the God mother and Nicki is HILARIOUS. She talks about Roman and Slim Shady (Nicki’s alter ego and Eminems alter ego) and how they got sent away for causing to much ruckus in the industry. The overall video though is very entertaining; boring at some parts because it can get repetitive. But it is PERFECT for the song.

Here is the video!

I sprinkle holy water, upon the VAMPIYAH!
