The singer from Canada who refuses all interviews, award show appearance and any kind of publicity had one of the most anticipated sets over the weekend in California. While a bunch of celebrities looked on, The Weeknd took the stage to perform various songs from his mixtapes. The mixtapes that have been critically acclaimed from music lovers came to life with a more edgy rock vibe during his 50 minute set. People went ape sh*t for him and it was great to see his success come alive on the stage.

He performed songs like High For This, Dirty Diana (Michael Jackson Cover), Crew Love (a Drake cover) and to close off his set he performed his song Wicked Games which was the highlight of it all.

It was cool to see him on stage, as well as the Airplane Boys at the same time. Canadian music is taking over and it’s making me super excited.

Monday Headlines!

April 2nd, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in gossip | music - (0 Comments)

Good afternoon friends. I like to say that Monday’s are usually slow in music related news. But this morning was a little jam-packed. For instance, the Juno’s took place last night. I must say, I’m really proud of Canadian Music right now. They are getting more airtime, our artists are crossing over to the mainstream and people are starting to go apeshit over bands like Hedley, Mariana’s Trench, and Carly Rae Jepsen (not a band, the singer…have you heard of her)?

The Juno’s:

Hedley and Bieber were among the big winners at last night’s Juno’s but what about the antics that went on? Michael Buble won Album of the Year for this Christmas Album and DeadMau5 was NOT happy about it. (Surprise, Surprise). The Juno’s were also referred to as “Amateur Hour” when a medley of different artists were represented through a pop-dance performance. JRDN, Alyssa Reid, Mia Martina, and more took part in a joined up performance to showcase the new talent that Canada has to offer. Feist stole the show by winning Artist of the Year and being the queen that she is.

Drake on Drugs?

Drake openly admitted to doing drugs…with moderation that is. Wine, Codeine, and Weed are his favorites but he says he isn’t into drugs. But then caught himself when he realized he just said he did drugs. He just means he doesn’t like to get crazy. But should he have even told us? Probably not, because now we’re just going to be skeptical. He didn’t say how he is battling an addiction, or that it’s bad. Drake just does it. As simple as that.

Diggy VS J-Cole

BEEF HEAVEN. I know that sounds so weird. But the latest beef is taking place between Diggy Simmons and J. Cole. Yupp you heard it right, a 17 year old vs a 27 year old. Has Diggy ever heard of ‘respecting his elders’? The young rapper was feeling very disrespected when J Cole dissed his sister in a song. Diggy said “Heard you lying on my sis, telling people that you hit. When you album drops, I’m gonna hit you with your brick”. Those be fightin’ words.

Taylor Swift’s ACM date calls in sick :(.

This story is so sad. The boy who was going to go with Taylor Swift as a date to the American Country Music Awards wasn’t able to go because he was admitted to the hospital. My guess is, is that Taylor is going to make it up to him!

Drake’s very viral and popular song “Marvin’s Room” is under heat! The song that features a woman by the name of Ericka Lee who Drake was romantically involved with is suing him for not getting credit for the song. Lee claims that they decided to collaborate on the song, and share the earnings. Obviously when Lee didn’t see the dollar signs she decided to take legal action. Although Drake’s ex is taking legal action Drake’s rep has responded with a statement saying…

The claim is entirely without merit and our client has not engaged in any wrongful conduct”

AKA, home-girl probably signed a contact and is now looking like a dumb-idiot for trying to get money. But, you know what? I am not even mad at this girl because it only influences Drake to write some sublimitle song for this 3rd album.

Wouldn’t you agree?

People often say that Drake is one of the worst performers ever. I’d say there are worst out there. After watching this performance of Drake at the NHL All-Star Game I must say I’m pleased. The fans in the crowd were obviously showing mad-love for the canadian native but even the hockey players at their good old iPhone’s out trying to snap a picture of Drake. But don’t forget Drake always shows love for Canadians..before he performed he said ” If your proud to be Canadian tonight, make some noise!”

I’d like to say that HE KILLED IT! Well done.

Why Drake Shouldn’t Play Obama;

January 30th, 2012 | Posted by marksuknanan in gossip | movies - (0 Comments)

Recently there have been reports that Drake wants to take on the role of Obama. Drake talked to VH1 and said

I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon because I could play him, that’s the goal. I watch all the addresses. Anytime I see him on TV, I don’t change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I’m pretty good at impressions.”

Well I do remember Drake from Degrassi and he’s a pretty good actor, but good enough to play Obama? I don’t think so. The thing with Drake is that he is too well known to tackle a role as big at the U-S president. I feel like if I was to watch that movie his songs would be running through my head. That and who would play Michelle Obama? Rihanna…haha no way. Drake, I think you should tackle some other roles before you try to go for the academy award.

I’m not hating on his acting because as I said before I do think he is a good actor, but he must REALLY believe in himself to want to play Obama. Drake is not morphable, I feel like no matter what viewers wouldn’t be able to look at him and think it’s someone else. Catch my drift?

Hope you Drizzy fans ain’t mad at me!

Drake dropped a video for (one of the best songs) on his album Take Care called The Motto. The song opens with the line “I’m the F***ing man” which most of us hip-hop fans beleive that Drake is the MAN. The infectious beat has all of us hip-hop fans bobbin’ our heads and wishing we knew the words to this song (it’s on repeat right now…all what I got was “erryday erryday” so far). The Motto is one of those songs that makes you want to walk down the street and make your own music video. I’m not sure why but it’s just SICK. The music video isn’t really HIGH budget but Drake’s videos so far have been more on the artsy side not on the typical flashing lights/video hoes.

What do you think?

Bruno Mars to bring his ‘laziness’ to the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards this year. The sultry R&B singer has been confirmed on the MuchMusic website as well as Avril Lavigne, The Black Keys and City and Colour. Also announced earlier this month Selena Gomez will be co-hosting and Lady Gaga is going to baptize us all with a performance as well!

Seeing all the big peformers last year I wasn’t sure how they would top last years. They had Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Drake…I mean HUGE names. I think with the new performers they just added, we are in for quite the star studded event.

I can’t wait…bring the MUSIC!

Last night Drake KILLED it as a host at this years 2011 Juno’s. Over all the night was a great night with performances from Down With Webster, Chromeo and Johnny Reid. But skits that Drake did throughout the show really made it entertainment. The skit I posted above was the one called Old Money…it speaks for itself! Watch and enjoy…haha

Travis Barker‘s new album GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME drops today! With that Travis has been under a lot of hate-tweets (remember when it use to be hate-mail) for his collaborations with hip-hop artists. If you listen to Travis’s music NOW it’s mostly collaborations with Drake, Lil’ Wayne, Snoop Dogg etc. Which is great because you get the best of both worlds on certain tracks. But his fans don’t like it one bit. When he played at last years Grammy’s with Lil’ Wayne his fans were like “STOP PLAYING THIS RAP SHIT” causing his to respond and say…

“It’s like F*$K you man, open your ears you Nazi Bastards”

Some people just don’t like change when it comes to their music. Especially if they have been fans for so long. I can see where his ‘original’ Blink 182 fans are coming from but as I said people just HATE when their music changes. If music isn’t evolving with the time, then it is just weird for a ‘rock’ artist to start doing hip-hop.

I like it, but obviously his fans don’t!

LIL TWIST is coming out with a HUGE album. Young Money’s TEEN rapper has some heavyweights on his upcoming debut album. Twist was able to get Lil’ Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Sean Kingston, and everyone’s favorite…Justin Bieber! Not only his album coming out soon but he will also be joining Lil Wayne’s tour that ISN”T coming to TORONTO (makes me sad inside).

His rapping style reminds me of Lil’ Waynes, but his music is like “The Best I ever Had” by Drake.

No wonder he is signed to Young Money! Listen to his first single below,

Put Lil’ Wayne and Drake on any track and it sounds good. The long awaited REMIX has finally arrived and I love it!

Grammy’s….the after party

February 14th, 2011 | Posted by marksuknanan in award shows - (0 Comments)

DID YOU GUYS WATCH THE GRAMMY’S LAST NIGHT? IF you did, let’s just say the entire show was a little bit on the scrambled side. Not only is there MAJOR controversy about the awards and who won but the performances and outfits were something else.

Best New Artist: I was almost SURE that either Drake, Florence and the Machine or Mumford and Sons would win. Then all of a sudden they called some random girls name and all the millions of people watching were IN SHOCK. I was very surprised the Esperanza Spalding took the award home because honestly I didn’t see her as ‘competition’ for the others. As we all know the Grammy’s isn’t a popularity contest BUT in this care the winner of Best New Artist happens to be involved with the Grammy academy in some way. Ms Spalding has an AMAZING voice, so I’m not saying she isn’t talented she just caught a lot of us off guard when she won! Congrats though…. Never Say Never ;)

Lady Gaga in an EGG: Forget doing interviews, Lady Gaga was in incubation before her ‘Born This Way’ performance when she hit the red carpet. I don’t know if the EGG was the right choice for the Grammy’s. Seemed like it was more of a MTV VMA or an MMVA type of entrance not for an elegant night like the Grammy’s. HOWEVER Lady Gaga is known for shock value and she shocked EVERYONE with that egg. Who would have thought of that? It was pretty clever.

Performances: My favorite performance of the night would have to go to Katy Perry (  I L O V E Y O U ) She did a song called “Not Like The Movies” then danced around to Teenage Dream. She also revealed some footage from her wedding with Russel Brand. It was cute cute cute….I’m jealous. Too bad Katy got snubbed last night, I was kinda of p’d off that she didn’t win anything. NEXT YEAR!

Christina Aguilera: WHY IS THIS GIRL SUCH A MESS FOR? We all can’t deny that Christina Aguilera has an AMAZING VOICE. She was doing so good until random she fell on stage after the tribute to Aretha Franklin. I just DON’T understand what is wrong with her…get it together.

Justin Bieber Snubbed: His music is O-K, he is more of a popular artist not necessarily known for his MUSIC. No one says Justin Bieber is SUCH a good song writer…they just say AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BIEBER FEVER. His Grammy will come…I never knew Esperanza was competition.

What does Skylar Grey look like: Didn’t it feel like the producers were trying to cover up her face. All what I remember her singing is ” I NEED A DOCTOR “, Maybe she was singing it for a reason….some people just thought she had a huge zit. But Skylar does have an AMAZING voice…like WOW.

Nicki Minaj: L O L

Rihanna and Drake?: These two love birds tore up the Grammy stage when they performed their hit “What’s My Name” IT was a short performance but Rihanna can WORK IT. For being SICK Rihanna pulled through, she was GREAT.

OVERALL: This award show was great! IT was more of a concert then an award show but it was great to see that ARCADE FIRE won big! The Grammy’s felt a LITTLE boring this year, but I can’t wait for next year!

what was YOUR favorite part?
