concerts of the year; chosen by you!

December 21st, 2011 | Posted by marksuknanan in Concerts - (0 Comments)

If you know me, you know that I love concerts! Whenever I see someone at a concert they always say to me “of course your here”, or I’ll be on the GO train going to the A-C-C and they would be like “oh your going to _____ tonight?”. I didn’t think I was that predictable…anyways with the year ending I had to compile some concerts that were the TOP of the year. Instead of me choosing them, I thought I’d let you pipe in…here is what YOU thought were the concerts of the year!

@BSBLOVER82 had fun at NEVEREST/NKOTBSB

“@marksuknanan prolly a bit late, but hands down gotta be @NKOTBSB tour & as well the @neverestmusic show! Amazing voices & super sweet guys!”

Funny thing, I haven’t actually seen NEVEREST live before but I hear they put on a great show. Also the hype when the New Kids on the Block joined Backstreet Boys was ‘larger then life’. I’d say they had a great run this year.

Brendon Greene & Jami Lynn Molloy LOVED DeadMau5

Brendon: “Deadmau5 Rogers Centre . I’m surprised I didn’t have a heart attack that night. The lights, the sounds, it was the best night of my life :)”

Jami: “DEADMAU5. Absolutely amazing ! The lights were crazy, the energy from the crowd was awesome, sofi was there doing here thing, and most importantly joel did his thing and went big for toronto his hometown !”

Another FUNNY thing, that a D-J got most of the votes. This brings up a little bit of a discussion that dub-step/d-j infused beats are taking over right now. I don’t mind it, but I don’t think we will get rid of the tradiotonal pop artist…(yay)

Emily Day had fun rockin’ out with Kings of Leon!

“Kings of leon ! Oct 7th , london cops coliseum , great music great drinks even better friends! The tragically hip concert at downsview park canada day !!!!! Probably one of the best concerts I’ve been too !! We had VIP tickets I highly recommended doing VIP.. No beer tent line ups no ticket line ups , no food line ups! Amaaazingg , summer time concerts are incredible and on canada so much patriotism!!! Red and white ! That is all . :)”

Sounds like VIP is the way to go. But I heard that Kings of Leon don’t put on quite as good as a show compared to when they play smaller venue shows. Any body else feel that way?

Rebekah Foote was feelin’ Ke$ha this year!

“@marksuknanan ke$ha & LMFAO. I was so entertaining, it was one massive party at the molson amp that night! Having front row was pretty epic.”

Hey I say that having front row at any concert is epic! I saw Ke$ha back in April when she played the Kool Haus and girl likes to party. Because all of her songs are essentially hits…you go to that concert realizing you know every word, to every song!

and Sharla was california dreamin’ with Katy Perry!

“F*****ing Katy Perry concert was absolutely amazing, just saying”

Well Sharla, I’d have to agree with that. Katy Perry played a 2 night stint in Toronto and she was super fun. Her show was very flashy and fun, BUT her set-list seemed a little random. Katy opened with Teenage Dream then sung Hummingbird Heartbeat which killed the audience’s vibe totally. But over all she did great!

What was MY concert of the year? It’s hard to decide what concert was the BEST of the year because I don’t think anyone would go to every single concert. Well I would if I had unlimted cash flow but for me the best concert I went to was Robyn. The music composition of the show was flawless and it was more then just a concert it seemed like a musical journey. But I have to give a honorable mention to the Sheepdogs who absoluetly slay when they perform live.

That is all. I’m totally obsessed with concerts and if your reading this…you are too!

This is why you should be EXCITED:

LMFAO: There is no doubt that LMFAO had the song of the summer with Party Rock Anthem. Considering they are headling this show they are probably going to make you go banana’s. Have you heard their album? It’s full of club-bangers. I feel like they are going to turn the A-C-C into one giant CLUB.

Far East Movement: Who DOESN’T like Far East Movement. They are the guys who brought us “Like a G6″ and “OMG” Feat Snoop Dogg are destined to bring fire to the stage for this tour. They are the first all asian group to chart in North American which is saying that they are going to live up to the hype.

Kay: We have heard her song “My Name Is Kay” all summer long and now this Canadian native hopped on one of the biggest tours of the year. She has been playing clubs and just upgraded to arena tours. Shout out to KAY. She is reppin’ Canada quite well.

Rye Rye: Rye Rye is an up and coming rapper that released a song with Robyn. She is one fire and had all sorts of swag to her. Rye Rye has worked with M.I.A and Robyn which happen to be two of my favourite artists. Mad respect to you.

Thinking of checking out the tour? I will be there party rocking with YOU!

Looking for something FRESH to listen to? Well if you are, Robyn is the answer! Robyn has been out for some time now and she is ‘reviving’ her career now with the latest release of her album “Body Talk”. Body talk is a SICK album. The entire album is like dance track after dance track and not only is the song composition good but HER VOICE is impeccable. Robyn has this unique Swedish accent to her singing that makes her so much more intriguing to listen to. This song in specific called “Call Your Girlfriend” is a song about her telling her Boyfriend not to tell his EX-girlfriend the in-depth reasons to why he broke up with her. The story line of the song is just wonderful! Depending on how you interpret the song you might get a different meaning!

Should you be listening to Robyn: If you have an ‘ear‘ for good music you will really appreciate Robyn as an artist. 2011 is Robyn‘s year and not only is she going on her OWN tour but she also hopped on Katy Perry’s California Dream tour! Talk about work-a-holic.

Let me know what you think of the song, it’s a good one!

Today at 5:30p-m, Katy Perry showed up on all of our facebooks to tell us some NEWS she had. Now the main things that crossed my mind was North American tour dates, maybe MORE music, or MAYBE she is pregnant. Well with all the speculation I had, Katy announced that:

USA AND CANADIAN TOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOOYAH! opening is ROBYN (HOLY SH**) and Marina and the Diamonds. SO COOL!

If you want to see the dates; http://facebook.com/katyperry

Ontario Tour Dates:

Toronto – Air Canada Centre – June 30th 2011

Montreal – Bell Center – July 2nd 2011

Ottawa – Scotiabank Place – July 3rd 2011

She also gave some information about her Grammy appearance:

-She is bringing to 90 year old Grandma to the Grammy’s

-She will NOT be performing Firework, California Girls, OR Teenage Dream at the Grammy’s (LAME) I think she will perform “Not Like The Movies”.

Can’t wait for the tour! I will be there FOR sure. WILL YOU?

COACHELLA!!!!

January 19th, 2011 | Posted by marksuknanan in Concerts | music - (2 Comments)

One of the biggest music festivals in North America has released it’s line-up! KANYE WEST is headlining the huge 3 day event. Coachella is like the ultimate celebration for GOOD music. Besides Kanye West, there are some HUGE artists that stick out.

ROBYN: who’s album Body Talk took over the last quarter of 2010. She bascially rose from the dead with this album. She was big in 1997 with her hit “Show Me Love”. Robyn is also embarking on a tour this year hitting up Toronto next Wednesday (SO EXCITED). So that show in Toronto will just be a ‘preview‘ of what she is going to bring to Coachella. 2011 is going to be huge for her, considering she is also up for Grammys!!!!!!!

Lauryn Hill: Even though she does like to make her fans wait…a long time to see her. Lauryn Hill’s addition to the Coachella line up really proved that ‘she’s back’. Even though she has no new material out right now, she will be performing songs off her unforgettable album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill“.

Cee-Lo Green: Cee-Lo some how found a way to bring back ‘soul‘ music to make US love it. Cee-Lo’s song ‘Forget You‘ is probably the reason to why he got on this show. But either way I would be excited to see him live; because the type of music he sings usually sounds 10x better when you see him live in concert.

Wiz Khalifa: Black and Yellow, Black and Yellow! He is performing on the same day as Kanye West so this is his perfect oppurtunity to get even MORE fans with this appearence. It’s going to be cool to see what he can bring to the table other than that ONE song.

….Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons, Duran Duran, Neon Treers, Broken Social Scene, Damian Marley & Nas are also on my list!

Can’t wait to see the coverage, or maybe I’ll take a flight out to California.

Anyone care to join?

artist to watch; Natalia Kills

January 13th, 2011 | Posted by marksuknanan in Concerts | music - (1 Comments)

Epic, Epic, Epic! British Bombshell Natalia Kills is hittin’ it big with her new single “Mirror’s”. The thing I like about Natalia is that she has this whole ‘I’m a bad ass‘ vibe to her. Her video for Mirror’s premiered on MuchMusic’s new show “New.Music.Live” yesterday. The video is very good. It’s not one of those videos you see and your like…this is boring, who the hell does this girl think she is. Natalia has potential written all over her! She is opening up for Robyn on her Body Talk tour and on top of that she has one of the top songs on iTunes. She will do it big with this song…but how will she do overall? With new songs, a new album, and more performances…only time will tell!

One Hit Wonder?: I sure as hell hope not. She is very good, but I feel like in this case the song can be bigger than the artist! We will have to wait and see when her album comes out. I’m hoping it will contain lots of more smash-hits. Also she was discovered by Will.I.Am; he doesn’t sign one hit wonders, come on now!

Mirrors: If you haven’t heard this song on the radio yet, you are missing out! This song is good on so many levels. Produced by Akon; this song is just a hit!

P.S. I am going to the Robyn show on Wednesday January 26th at the Sound Academy…FULL REVIEW will be posted after!
